Matchawan Taro is a true masterpiece of ceramics and part of the “chado” tea path. We associate the color scheme of the teapot with the sea depths, so when choosing the name, we drew on one of Japan’s legends. It tells the story of a young fisherman, Tarō, who, while fishing, noticed a small turtle being bullied by children. Tarō rescued him and allowed him to return to the sea. The next day, a large turtle appeared before him (it was shrouded in sea algae and could be a thousand years old) and explained that the turtle he had saved earlier was Oto-hime, the daughter of the emperor of the sea, who wished to meet him to thank him. Magically, the turtle gave him gills and led him to a magnificent palace at the bottom of the sea.
