The Shizen Charka, whose name means “nature“ in Japanese, is a true ceramic masterpiece that originated in the picturesque city of Toki. Artists from Toki, Gifu Prefecture, use techniques dating back over 1,300 years in their work. The bowls are meticulously crafted on a potter's wheel, giving each piece its own unique soul. Matchawan Shizen evokes a peaceful forest. Its irregular shape and delicate details make drinking tea not only a pleasant ritual but also a wonderful immersion in Japanese aesthetics. Shizen is the perfect balance between beauty and functionality. The matcha bowl is dishwasher safe on a gentle cycle, making it a useful addition to any kitchen.

Matcha preparation in a bowl

The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.

Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
