Matchawan is a traditional vessel used to prepare and drink matcha, which will enhance not only the home tea ritual but also any interior it is placed in. Matchawan Kido resembles an out-of-this-world object. The name itself means orbit in Japanese and perfectly reflects the abstract, unique pattern that adorns the irregularly formed edges.

The bowl was created in Japan on the island of Honshu in the city of Toki. The Oroshi district there is famous for firing traditional Japanese Shino pottery with unique patterns and shapes. The matchawan is first shaped into a mold and then hand-shaped into unique features and shapes. The bottom of the bowl is wide, which makes preparing matcha in it simple and enjoyable.

Matcha preparation in a bowl

The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.

Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
