Fukunami is a matchawan with two faces: on one side it has pink decoration, on the other green decoration. Because the bowls are hand-painted, each piece is unique. The distinctive, wavy edges of the matchawan add a unique character to the entire series of bowls and refer in form to centuries-old Japanese ceramic traditions. The low walls of the bowl and its wide bottom allow you to comfortably break the matcha in water and quickly obtain foam on the surface. This can be done using a bamboo chasen broom or a milk frother.

Matchawan Fukunami was designed and made by Quiet Form, an intimate ceramics studio from Kyiv specializing in the highest quality porcelain products. Quiet Form was founded in 2016 by a talented pair of artists, Tania and Alex, who love beautiful shapes and natural colors. The porcelain from Ukraine and glaze from Germany they use are fired in Japanese furnaces at a temperature of 1260 degrees, which guarantees their extraordinary durability. The bowls in their studio are handmade, giving each one its own unique character.

Preparing matcha in a bowl

The traditional method of preparing matcha tea comes from the Japanese tea ceremony. It requires a matchawan bowl, a bamboo chasen whisk, and a bamboo chashaku spoon.

Pour two bamboo teaspoons of matcha (1.5g) into the matchawan, pour in approx. 100 ml of hot water (80 °C), so that the bottom of the bowl is completely covered with water. Then stir the chasen vigorously, using M-like movements, until a thick light green foam forms on the surface. It takes less than 30 seconds.
